Dr Tamika Heiden

Principal and founder

Dr Tamika Heiden is the founder and principal of Knowledge Translation Australia. Tamika has worked in health research and research coordination for over 15 years and is passionate about making a difference through the translation of research into practice.

Tamika’s education in knowledge translation, and dedication to improving social outcomes from research, led her to develop Knowledge Translation Australia. Tamika’s goal, and purpose for creating knowledge translation Australia, is to ensure that research is relevant and accessible to the people who need it. Tamika has well developed networks, both nationally and internationally, and has trained widely in the field of translation.

Coming from an applied science background Tamika’s purpose was to do research to make a difference. Tamika was first introduced to the science behind knowledge translation whilst she was working in Aboriginal Health. The idea of research belonging to the community it would serve and of that community being involved with the research from conception through to delivery aligned with her personal philosophy, that knowledge should be shared.

Through her experience in knowledge translation Tamika has won coveted awards in translation from SickKids Hospital and in innovation form the Canadian Knowledge Mobilization forum. Tamika is regularly invited to present on KT, run workshops for researchers, and assist in strategic planning.

Sarah Dean is a Project Management Specialist who works with entrepreneurs, small business owners and corporate professionals to realise their business goals by using practical project management.

After spending 15 years in the project management space with global corporations ranging from oil and gas to defence, Sarah truly knows what drives success project outcomes and the realisation of business goals – it’s being clear on what you need to do, and spending the time preparing effective project execution.

Sarah is experienced in delivering engaging project management training and has worked with self-employed trades people to general managers of billion-dollar brands.

Sarah holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Project Management from Curtin University and is a member of the Australian Institute of Project Management.

Dr Narelle Tunstall

Narelle is passionate about supporting researchers, their projects and ultimately research outcomes.

She has managed complex research projects including an ARC Training Centre, an NHMRC Centre for Clinical Research Excellence and a Commonwealth funded Collaborative Research Network but has also worked in a large, fast-paced research office during major grant rounds and has completed hundreds of grant reviews (both critical reviews and eligibility/compliance).

Narelle is a practical, perceptive and reliable research manager. But it is her enthusiasm for the research community that you will appreciate most. With a PhD in Genetics from Monash University and now several years of research operations, development and grant writing experience, Narelle seeks to continue her contribution to research by supporting your success. 

Narelle brings this wealth of experience to her research development consultancy with a focus on grant writing and career development for Graduate and Early Career Researchers.
